Joy of Life International x Label Mates

Hello, thank’s for joining us here. This is the first official correspondence from Joy of Life International, the not-for-profit record label set up as a subsidiary of End of the Road by The Golden Dregs. You’re receiving this email because you have either subscribed or supported the label or The Golden Dregs in the past twelve months. If you don’t want to hear from us again then please feel free to unsubscribe, although we promise you that we will almost definitely only be in touch with good news about good music.

We’ve had a great start to our first year, with singles from Ohtis (Blankets on the Blinds, Without Blemish) and full length LP’s from Sculpture Park (Monument to Effort) and The Golden Dregs (Godspeed). And as we pass the year’s halfway mark we’re gearing up for a busy few months of releases, the first of which will be out exactly a week today. Thanks to everyone for listening and supporting so far and the many words of encouragement we’ve received along the way. It feels as though we are doing the right thing here!

The motivation for getting in touch today, besides the shameless self-congratulation, is to let you know that on August 24th we will be taking over Moth Club in Hackney as part of the Label Mates festival. Here we will present a Joy of Life International showcase, highlighting a growing collective of distinct and defiant voices; avant-indie 5-piece Sculpture Park - the group behind our first full length release (Monument to Effort), hauntingly resonant contemporary folk project Lichen - the songwriting alias of Michael Clark, and the lo fi camp pop maximalism of Vogues, alongside debut performances from brand new project’s Al Cologne and Perfect Binding, friend of the label Sophie Jamieson, who’s stunning record I want to share came out on Bella Union earlier this year, poetry readings from Joe Johnston and an unannounced-End-of-the-Road-festival-warm-up from another close friend of the label. A lot! The show will be seated, the sets will be short and there will be intervals. A sophisticated variety performance for your bank holiday Sunday. What’s more is that the very reasonable £10 advance ticket cover will, after venue costs, be going straight to the War Child charity. Tickets are very limited and available now on Dice. We’ll be there with some records and label merch, and we look forward to hosting a special evening for a vital cause.

We’ll be in touch soon with news of our next release. Until then, thank you.
